Press release -
Swedish minister officially opened Telenor Connexion
On April 22nd Swedish infrastructure minister Aasa Torstensson officially instated Telenor Connexion at a visit to the company’s offices in Karlskrona.
The global M2M company which stems from Telenor Sweden was established in October 2008, but was formally inaugurated in Karlskrona on April 22 by Swedish infrastructure minister Aasa Torstensson.
Telenor Connexion is one of the largest international suppliers of M2M solutions with over 1.3 million active SIM-cards. The establishment of the new company has resulted in a number of new jobs. The Karlskrona office is currently hiring 25 people in technical positions. In total Telenor Connexion will employ around 100 people to their premises in Karlskrona and Stockholm.
- The visit to Telenor Connexion in Karlskrona has been extremely informative and stimulating, not least from an EU-perspective. With the company’s investment in new technology solutions they pave the way for creating win-win situations, where IT can be used as a tool to meet climate challenges and to increase road safety. The link between IT, on the one hand, and transport on the other hand is something I have long awaited, said Aasa Torstensson in her inaugural speech.
Instead of the traditional cut-the-ribbon-inauguration, the minister sent an sms-greeting to all the staff: “With your smart technology you save lives and reduce environmental impact, I appreciate that. I hereby open Telenor Connexion. Good luck!” – Aasa Torstensson, infrastrukturminister.
- With Telenor Connexion, we take advantage of the large growth potential outside of Sweden and seek to expand our position globally. The M2M market has grown tremendously in recent years and is driven by an increasing demand for safety, energy efficiency and climate smart solutions, among others. The solutions we offer are extremely versatile since they allow for efficiencies and savings, both in the short and the long term, said Per Simonsen, CEO of Telenor Connexion.
According to research firm Berg Insight, the number of M2M connections, just in Europe, are to increase to over 50 million by 2011.
